Award for volunteer work
On Tuesday 3rd March Pat and Clive La-Garde were presented with Volunteer Good Service Certificates by Area Chairman Peter Carr.
Peter in his remarks said, at our AGM some of you may recall that Trevor Allison spoke about how vital our volunteers are. In fact they are at the heart of everything that the Ramblers stand for and achieve. Our walk leaders, our programme secretaries, our footpath workers, our committee members are all volunteers and without them the Ramblers would not exists. Trevor also spoke of how we should celebrate and recognise the efforts of our volunteers.
Sometimes though, even amongst dedicated volunteers someone stands out and is recognised as a shining example. In the case of Oswestry we have two such examples; of Pat and Clive La-Garde without whose efforts we would not have the group we have today. They have been jointly involved in just about every aspect of Oswestry Ramblers from organising walks through to leading and dedicated behind the scenes committee work.
The Ramblers nationally recognise such dedication via a personalised Good Service Volunteer certificate which is signed by the Ramblers President – Kate Ashbrook.
Some will know that within Oswestry Group we award such service by giving the recipient “THE BOOT”. This was in fact invented by Clive who produced carved boots to award. In the absence of a carver to carry on the tradition for a carved version to give Pat and Clive “THE BOOT” a stained glass represenation of a pair of boots was presented.
